Aguilar House is a private lodge situated in Bamfield, in the Barkley Sound, northwest of Victoria and south of Tofino. Aguilar House is the ideal destination for fishing, hiking, whale and storm watching, and is perfect for relaxing corporate retreats or romantic getaways. Sitting at the remote northern tip of the famous West Coast Trail, our place would make a great post or pre start destination. The warm pacific current keeps the lodge frost free for the majority of the year. The prime salmon fishing season is between June 1st and September 15th. The main lodge has six bedrooms on the upper level, 7 bathrooms (four with en-suite), totaling ten beds, 5 king sized, 1 queen and four single bunk beds built into the wall of the library room, allowing room for 16 guests – two in each of the rooms except the library room, which sleeps six (1 king + 4 bunks) and is ideal for children. All bathrooms are fully stocked with amenities, including soap, shampoo, and hairdryers, and all beds are dressed with snug linens and comforters. The lodge is equipped with a washer-dryer unit and cleaning supplies if needed.

The main lodge also features a games room with leather couches, a pool table, plasma TV and dart board. The dining table seats 12, and is adjacent to the living room, equipped with lean-back leather chairs and couches, as well as a fireplace and view of the ocean, making it the ideal place to watch the sunset or snuggle up in front of the fire for prime storm watching. The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, gas stove, microwave, toaster and coffee machine, stainless steel fridge and wine fridge, and plenty of cookware and silverware. It has an additional breakfast table that can seat six, as well as a high-top bar that can seat three more. The kitchen is also equipped with a pantry, with plenty of space for storing food procured at the Bamfield General Store (a five to ten minute walk from the lodge) or any items brought with you on your journey to the lodge. We recommend stocking up on any specialty items before arriving at the lodge, as while the general store has great variety, it is quite small, and may not be able to provide some more unique items. On the back porch outside the kitchen is a sink station perfect for cleaning your catch, as well as a gas BBQ. Our chef, Luksanna, is available for hire at additional cost upon request depending on availability. This service is charged by the hour plus the cost of the food, paid in cash upon arrival or as requested during your stay. Cleaning is also available for the lodge, charged by the hour and paid in cash upon arrival.

Also included with this beautiful lodge is our stand-alone hilltop cabin with separate access, full bath, small sitting area, kitchen/cooking facilities, washer/dryer and flat screen TV. Cabin “Raven” has a queen bed on the main floor that sleeps two guests and two trundle beds in the loft for an additional four (great for kids). Cabin “Eagle” is occupied by our onsite staff, Steve & Luksanna to assist you during your stay.

The Raven cabin and the lodge have WiFi throughout and satellite TV.

For activities, the lodge has an 8 person Jacuzzi with an excellent view of the ocean, an outdoor fire pit, and large bluff which is the ideal spot for star-gazing on warm summer nights. The lodge is equipped with two sea kayaks and four mountain bikes available for use. The lodge is a thirty minute walk from Brady's Beach, which is rich with tide pools. Its proximity to the West Coast Trail also makes it an ideal starting or ending point for the hike, and for those interested in learning about the local marine life, the Bamfield Marine Sciences Center provides tours and information. One can also explore the boardwalk, ripe with charming local art installations.

Additionally, charged per day, the fishing boat, a twenty-eight foot “Grady White” with 225 horsepower outboard motors with heat and head, is available for hire by the day with captain. Fish processing and flash freezing is also available at extra cost, at 10$ per fish. The boat is also a great way to spot wildlife, including whales, porpoises, otters, sea lions, black bears, and a great variety of birds, including bald eagles. Additional boats are available for hire if needed.

Aguilar House is the perfect retreat for those who want to be immersed in nature without giving up the amenities of modern living. Its remoteness is perfect for getting away from work and soaking up the West Coast atmosphere of Beautiful British Columbia.
